This is Roland, a very special dog we rescued in May 2014. He was shot in the back with a .22 caliber gun on May 6, 2014 near the intersection of Roland and Rigsby. Unable to use his hind legs, he dragged himself 2 blocks to Carlos' Tire Shop. The owner, Carlos, fed "Mr. Brown", as he called him, every morning and he was seeking refuge from the only person he knew cared about him. Carlos stood in the middle of Roland street to stop traffic, so "Mr. Brown" could drag himself across safely. Carlos flagged down Officer Ortiz and Officer Cardona, SAISD police officers and they called Voices for Animals sponsors, Mary Shearer and Tammie Bennett. They rushed him to Southeast Animal Hospital where he was treated. Mr. Brown was renamed Roland and later transferred to South Texas Veterinary Specialists where he was fitted for a wheel cart. Later, he was taken to Texas A&M Veterinary Hospital where he was treated for pain management. We are grateful to Jozannah Quintanilla, WOAI-TV, and all of the people who reached out to us and donated money to make it possible for us to save Roland and to give him the life he deserves. Today, Roland enjoys a very pampered life with an abundance of unconditional love with Tammie, one of his rescuers, and five other rescue dogs and cats.
